Characteristic of Hastelloy C-22

Hastelloy C-22 alloy is an all-round nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy. It has better overall corrosion resistance than other existing nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys, including Hastelloy C-276, C4 and 625 alloys. Hastelloy C-22 alloy has good resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. It has excellent antioxidant properties in water media, including wet chlorine, nitric acid or mixed acids containing chloride ions. At the same time, Hastelloy C-22 alloy also has ideal resistance to reductive and oxidative environments encountered in the process. Depending on this versatile performance, it can be used in some headache environments or in factories for a variety of production purposes. Hastelloy C-22 alloy has abnormal resistance to various chemical environments, including strong oxidizing substances, such as ferric chloride, copper chloride, chlorine, thermal contaminated solution (organic inorganic), formic acid, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, seawater and salt solution. Hastelloy C-22 alloy has the ability to resist grain boundary precipitation in HAZ, which makes it suitable for many chemical processes in welding.

Hastelloy C-22 has a face-centered cubic lattice structure.

Corrosion resistance of Hastelloy  C-22:

Hastelloy C-22 alloy is suitable for chemical process industries with redox and reductive media. Higher molybdenum and chromium content makes the alloy resistant to chloride ion corrosion, and tungsten element further improves its corrosion resistance. Hastelloy C-22 is one of the few materials that can resist the corrosion of wet chlorine, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide solution. The alloy has remarkable corrosion resistance to high concentration chloride solution (such as ferric chloride and copper chloride).

Hastelloy C-22 alloys have been widely used in chemical and petrochemical fields, such as in components and catalytic systems that are exposed to chlorinated organic compounds. This material is especially suitable for use in corrosive environment of inorganic and organic acids (such as formic acid and acetic acid) mixed with impurities at high temperature.
