Chemical Composition: Monel 400 is composed of 63% nickel, 28% copper, 2.5% iron, 1.5% manganese, 0.5% silicon, and trace amounts of carbon and sulfur.
Physical Properties: Monel 400 has a density of 8.83 g/cm3, a melting point of 1,350-1,395°C, and a specific heat capacity of 427 J/kg-K.
Mechanical Properties: Monel 400 has high strength and excellent ductility. Its tensile strength ranges from 480-520 MPa, and its yield strength is typically around 170 MPa. The alloy also has good toughness and is able to withstand high stress and strain.
Corrosion Resistance: Monel 400 has excellent corrosion resistance in a variety of environments, including seawater, acids (such as hydrofluoric, sulfuric, and hydrochloric acid), alkalis, and reducing agents. The alloy is particularly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion.
Applications: Monel 400 is commonly used in a variety of applications, including marine engineering (such as seawater valves, pumps, and heat exchangers), chemical processing (such as chemical reactors and distillation columns), oil and gas production (such as downhole and surface equipment), and electronics (such as electrical and electronic components). The alloy is also used in aerospace and defense applications, as well as in the production of medical equipment and instruments.
